Position purpose

A Level B academic is expected to make contributions to the teaching effort of the university and to carry out activities to maintain and develop her/his scholarly, research and/or professional activities relevant to the profession or discipline.

The key result areas of Research, Teaching and Engagement are the basis for the primary duties and responsibilities of the role. A workload will be agreed annually with the Head of School during the Performance Development Plan process. Other duties may be required from time to time as directed by the Head of School.

Key Responsibilities

1. Contribute to curriculum development, innovation, enhancement and quality assurance in the undergraduate and postgraduate units.
2. Deliver innovative and excellent teaching, learning and assessment experiences for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
3. Conduct original research developing an active record of publication, external research funding, and graduate research student supervision. 
4. Participate in collaborations with other universities, government, industry and/or civil society to drive research impact and educational excellence.
5. Support the management of education, research and/or administration in the School through, for example, participation in committees.
6. Undertake administrative responsibilities primarily connected with the units taught, including course review, admission, and accreditation processes.

Key selection criteria

1. A doctoral qualification (PhD) in Medicinal Chemistry/Pharmaceutical Science.
2. Demonstrated ability to teach in a university environment.
3. Demonstrated ability to produce excellent research and supervise research students.
4. Demonstrated ability to work with partners in universities, government and/or civil society.
5. Demonstrated skills and experience in collaboration and teamwork.
6. Strong interest in building connections with industry. 
7. Proven ability, commitment and passion for engaging in scholarly and research activities/projects. 
8. Postdoctoral and/or industrial experience is an advantage.
9. Professional qualification as a Malaysian registered pharmacist is an added advantage.

Other job-related information

1. Travel to other campuses of the University may be required.
2. Travel to industry placement sites may be required. 
3. There may be a requirement to work additional hours from time to time.
4. There may be peak periods of work during which taking leave may be restricted.
