From 2003-2005 Dr Parekh was a research fellow on a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) grant, developing novel non-viral vectors for gene delivery. In 2004 his technology for treating age-related macular degeneration was awarded the Trailblazer ‘Open Winner’ prize for commercial potential, by Uniquest Pty LTD.
In 2005 Dr Parekh attained Pharmacy Board registration in QLD. In the same year he was appointed Lecturer within the School of Pharmacy and set about establishing his own laboratory focusing his research on engineering advanced non-viral drug and gene delivery systems. In 2007, for the 2nd time, Dr Parekh was awarded the Trailblazer ‘Open Winner’ prize for his antibody targeted gene delivery system.
In 2009 Dr Parekh was appointed adjunct-Lecturer at Manipal University, India, having also delivered invited seminars to key research and teaching institutions in Germany and Singapore with active collaborations spanning the globe also including the USA, Brazil and UK. To-date Dr Parekh has graduated 5 Honours, 2 Masters and 4 PhD students from his group, with his research being funded by the NHMRC, Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst-Group of 8 Council, Cancer Council of Queensland, The University of Queensland and Uniquest Pty LTD
